Bios Mrs. Kathleen McCarthy Kathleen, owner and director, administrates over the curriculum and daily operations of the school. She taught in the Lowell Public Schools for 7 years before opening Building Blocks in the fall of 1986. Her education includes an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Certification in Reading. She lives in Lowell and has 3 grown children as well as 3 grandchildren. Mrs. Kerry Fantasia Kerry is the director of the Prep, she oversees the curriculum, environment and staff while working with the families to provide optimal programming to meet the needs of the students.
Mrs. Christine Dehney
Christine was raised in Dracut and graduated from Bishop Guertin High School. She earned her Bachelors Degree From Suffolk University. Currently she resides in Dracut with her husband and three children, one daughter is a recent graduate of Building Blocks and the other will be in Transitional Kindergarten this year. Christine will be returning for her third year as a teachers aid at The Prep.
Miss Alyssa Godfroy
Alyssa was born and raised in Lowell. She has worked at Building Blocks throughout the past few years as a volunteer. Alyssa recently became certified in Early Childhood Education. She also works as a camp counselor at Camp Caribbean. Alyssa is currently working towards her degree in psychology. This year, Alyssa will be working at The Prep as an aid. Miss Christina Godfroy Christina has been involved with Building Blocks through volunteering, substituting and completing practicum's since her mother Karen Godfroy began working at the school. You may know Christina as a councilor at Camp Caribbean. She has recently graduated from Fitchburg State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services. This year she will be teaching a 4 year old preschool class. Mrs. Karen Godfroy This is Karen’s 12th year working with us. Karen first volunteered with us, then substituted and then got her certificate to teach preschool. This year Karen will have a class of 4 year olds on Apple Ave. She lives in Lowell and has 3 children of her own, her two daughters are also staff members at Building Blocks. Karen also handles tuition, so if you have a tuition question please contact her. Mrs. Carole Gray Carole was born and educated in Lowell. She is certified in Early Childhood Education and will be teaching a class at The Prep. She lives with her husband and 3 children, 2 who have graduated from Building Blocks. Mrs. Kathy Gwiazda Kathy came to us 14 years ago as an assistant teacher. Over the years, she has worked with the 3, 4 and 5 year olds. This year Kathy will be an assistant on Apple Ave. Miss Lauren Hannaford Lauren has been a part of Building Blocks for 6 years, starting out as a counselor at Camp Caribbean and now as part of our teaching staff. She is currently working toward her BA in the field of Early Childhood Education. This year, Lauren will be teaching a 4 year old class on Ladybug Lane. Miss Sarah Laferriere
Sarah has recently graduated from Dracut High School and is now attending college to complete her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development and Education. Sarah will be working as an aid at The Prep this year. Mrs. Michele Melendez
This will be
Michele's second year teaching at the Prep. She is certified in
early childhood and is currently working on her degree in Elementary
Education with a minor in Human Services. She resides in Lowell
with her husband and 3 children.
Mrs. Karen Mercuri Karen a Lowell native has been substituting at Building Blocks for several years. She has earned her certification in Early Childhood. This year she will teach a preschool class at The Prep. Mrs. Patricia O'Shaughnessy Pat will be returning to Building Blocks for her 14th year. This year Pat will again be teaching one of the Transitional Kindergartens. She is a graduate of Lowell Commercial College where she earned an Associate's Degree in the Arts. Pat received her certification in Early Childhood Education from Middlesex Community College. Mrs. Deborah Raras Debbie will be returning to Building Blocks for her 16th year. This year she will again be teaching a Transitional Kindergarten class. She is a graduate of Quincy College where she earned an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Prior to coming to Building Blocks she substituted in the Lowell Public Schools. She is married and has 3 grown boys. Mrs. Christine Regan Christine first came to us a a student teacher, and has since gotten her certification in Early Childhood Education. She is a graduate of UMass Lowell where she received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and is currently working towards her Masters in Early Childhood Education. This year Christine will be teaching a class of 4 year olds. She currently lives in Wilmington with her husband and 3 children, all of whom graduated from Building Blocks. Mrs. Mary Sperounis Mary will be returning to Building Blocks for her 10th year. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education. Mary has three children of her own and they all attended Building Blocks. This year Mary will be teaching a 3-4 year old preschool class and she is also the web coordinator. Mrs. Susan Sykes Susan is beginning her 15th year at Building Blocks. Prior to coming to Building Blocks, she taught at the Lowell YMCA Preschool. Susan attended UMass/Lowell where she was an Elementary Education major. She completed her Early Childhood Education Certification at Middlesex Community College. This year she will be teaching 4 year olds and working as curriculum coordinator. Sue is the mother of 3 children, one who attended Building Blocks for 2 years. Mrs. Maria Tretola Maria was born and raised in Lowell and currently lives there with her husband and two children. She has worked in the Lowell school system for 8 years. She is certified in Early Childhood Education and will be teaching a class of 3 year olds.
