At Building Blocks, the teachers are dedicated to the academic and social development of each child. Whether they're teaching your child how to spell his/her name, or add and subtract; celebrating a birthday party; leading rehearsal for our graduation ceremony; or hosting Formal Fridays and Grandmother's Reading Sessions — our teachers are here because they love teaching and, more importantly, care about your child.

Boy were we busy in February!  There was so much going on that no wonder it seemed to go by in a flash.  I hope everyone had a nice break over February vacation.  Before we went on our break we had a great time practicing our good manners for Robert's formal Friday.  Thank you to Mrs. Sheehan for being our special guest.  We also celebrated Sean's 5th birthday, Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, and our 100th day of school.  The vests looked great! Some of the best yet!  Thanks so much for helping out at home to make it such a successful project!  We rounded out the month with a visit from the dentist to tell us all about dental health.  Keep brushing!!!

Mrs. Karen McCarthy

We had a busy and fun-filled February - it flew by, especially with our vacation break.  I hope you all enjoyed the February vacation!  I want to thank all of the parents that were able to make it to the Parent Night this month.  I enjoyed speaking with each of you and hope you enjoyed the presentation from our speaker. Our Valentine's Day party was a lot of fun and all of the children really enjoyed giving each other their valentine's.  The children had yummy treats to eat, we played games and a good time was had by all.  We have been able to go out to play on Thursdays, weather permitting, and they all have been having fun playing in the snow.  I am looking forward to March - we have lots of fun things planned!

Mrs. Mercuri

February was surely a short month!  We had many out sick with the stomach bug!  Boy does that travel quick!  Everyone came back from vacation nice and healthy.  I hope everyone enjoyed their well needed vacation.  Did you know that vacations are necessary?  They can actually keep you healthy and refresh your mind!  (A little trivia from literacy next door)  We had a visit from Collins Dentistry.  She gave us so much information on good foods for your teeth and the not so good foods.  We also got a new toothbrush, toothpaste and a dinosaur flosser. We also learned about the food pyramid this month.  Looking forward to springtime weather coming soon!

Mrs. O'Shaughnessy

February will be remembered as the celebration month.  We started by having a wonderful time at Liam's Formal Friday.  Both his parents were his special guests and the class totally enjoyed themselves with their book and wonderful dessert.  The "100 Day Celebration" was a huge success, beginning with how creative you all were in helping your children make such terrific vests.  They had beaming smiles as Mrs. McCarthy introduced each one of them and they described everything they had glued on.  After our parade over to The Prep we finished our activities by making our own ice cream sundaes with all the fixens.  Caroline joined the special group of 5 year olds when we celebrated her birthday.  We had so much fun exchanging valentines with Mrs. Raras' class and then having yet another party. Buddy Bear has been having a ball traveling from house to house and then coming back to tell us all about his adventures.  Since we last talked he has visited Bridget, Bailey and Ashlee.  Mrs. McCarthy treated us to an ice cream party in recognition for winning the state capital face off. Thank you for all your help.  Also, thank you for completing the monthly response journal.  You have no idea how I enjoy reading them and compare your answers with their work in school.  I can't believe spring is almost here and those silly bears will be waking up.  Just today, Liam thought he heard some noise coming from the cave.  Could be any day.  Til next month.

Mrs. Raras

The month was short but filled with lots of fun times! First we celebrated Ben's Formal Friday and he chose his Mom as his special guest. She brought all kinds of goodies- brownies, cookies and orange slices. We had a great time eating and talking with Mrs. Morgan. After that, she read two books -a duck and goose story the kids loved and "If You Take A Mouse To School" which is a crowd pleaser! Thank you Mrs. Morgan and Ben for a wonderful visit!  We celebrated our 100th day of school with an  ice cream sundae party - Yummy!! The vests the kids made (with help from Mom & Dad ) were fantastic! So many different and creative ideas - I love it! Bravo to everyone! We also had our Valentine party with Mrs. O'Shaughnessy's class. The kids loved passing out their valentines to all their friends. Thank you also for our cupcakes and hoodsies. After we returned from vacation, we had a visitor from Collins Dental and she told us lots of good ways to care for our teeth. Hope your child shared some of these with you!  We had three birthdays this month and all fell on the same day! First time that ever happened in my class! We decided to separate them so we wouldn't be overloaded with sugar! Brady was first and we thank his Mom for the delicious cupcakes he brought in. Welcome to the 5 year old club Brady!!!!  Next we celebrate Josh and Lindsay's B-day and their Mom made awesome brownies. Thank you for that super treat! Being twins is a special bond and makes your day even that much better! Welcome to the 5 year old club Josh and Lindsay!  We ended the month with our Pink show n' tell day. That can be a difficult one for the boys but they rose to the occasion!!  Till next time - take care and think SPRING!!!!!

Mrs. Sperounis

We all enjoyed making our Dr. Seuss' Oobleck, it was very messy but lots of fun!  During the month of March we will be all about Dr. Seuss and rhyming!  Potato penguins and the painted feet penguins were a big hit - we have them hanging in our classroom.  Tues/Thurs class had a terrific and very informative visit from a dentist and M/W/F class will be having a dentist visit on the 12th.  Happy 5th Birthday to Lukas - everyone loved the homemade cupcakes!  I hope you all had a great vacation!

Mrs. Sykes

Greetings!  Another month; wow is all I can say to that!  February was a busy month for birthdays.  Happy 5th Birthday to Emma, Frankie, and Jackson.  We kicked off the month with a trip to the theater to see "Click, Clack, Moo".  It seemed to be a favorite of everyone, myself included.  Frankie said he loved the show, but the bus ride was awesome!  We did lots of fun stuff with groundhog projects and Valentine's Day projects.  It was a great party day before breaking for vacation.  Your children had a great history lesson this week when we got into what it meant to be an historical figure.  They learned lots about Presidents, highlighting Washington, Lincoln, and Obama.  James told us at Circle Time that G. Washington hadn't been to a dentist and had to replace his rotten teeth with sharks' teeth.  Kiley told us A. Lincoln freed the slaves.  That opened up another discussion!  To end the month we touched upon dental health and nutrition.  We have a dentist coming in for a visit in March.  Hopefully, Spring is right around the corner!  Until then, keep up the reading--March is Literacy month.  Fondly, Susan Sykes

Mrs. Tucker

We had a great February.  We learned all about the post office and how we get our mail. We mailed lots and lots of notes and cards to our friends on Apple Ave.  We even had to make all the deliveries like the real mailman! We made real valentine post cards for our friends next door at The Prep and downstairs on ladybug lane.   We waited and waited for the mailman and gave him our special delivery.  They got their mail and it was so exciting. Our Valentine party was great. We got so much mail from our friends.  It filled  up our valentines carriers that we made. Did you like the bracelets we made you Moms!!  I loved all the very unique and special hearts you made.  It was a great family project.  I especially loved all the child friendly creative work. Good for you everyone, Jack, Conor, Colin, Grace Chloe, Fiona, Alexandra, Kailee, and Colleen.  I was very impressed.  We also learned all about teeth and how to keep them healthy.  Then we had a visit from the dentist.  It was pretty cool. Ask us about goods foods and bad foods for our teeth. We played dentist in the dentists office at Building Blocks and we even made our own "fake" brushes.  It was also Elmo's birthday in February. We celebrated for him.  Well here we go into my favorite month!!!!!
